And Then I Met Erich is a film about the search for the past, about identity, trauma, but most of all about resilience.
Being born and raised in Germany, the filmmaker returns to her parents' Transylvanian hometown for the first time to see what they left behind. Copsa Mica was considered the most polluted place in Europe for many years, but it was also the place where people grew up, fell in love, sang, fought, worked and died. An unlikely friendship begins when she meets the last Transylvanian Saxon of the village, who claims to be a relative and invites her into his life. Through him she discovers a familiar toxic world that has vanished from the surface, but still lies deep in the soil and the memories of the people.
